JASON LOTT BIOGRAPHY STATEMENT

"Art, for me, is the willful act of creation or sometimes even destruction in an attempt to communicate with other human beings. Being an artist is all about making things and breaking things.
The process of creating art is very important to me. I can’t appreciate the final product like you the viewer can. Much like many actors never view the films they’ve acted in, I can’t experience the pieces I create with fresh eyes and from an outsider’s perspective. The process of creation fascinates and excites me. The journey each piece travels during it’s creation is my own mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual journey. I’m exploring myself in the act of creating my art.
Like the alchemist in his lab, the creation and exploration of my art in my work shop and studio is my exploration of my own ideals, philosophies, and spiritual beliefs. I learn a great deal about myself and my own place in the scheme of things through the creation process.
The great thing about art however is the fact that you, the viewer, can assign your own meanings to the pieces you see. I encourage you to explore the symbols, objects, and ideas I present through the lens of your own life and experiences. Find your own theme and story behind the pieces. Art is universal, it’s for everybody to experience and understand in their own way." --Lott, 2010
